WAEC to re-introduce e-marking

In an effort to broaden its scope, the West African Examinations Council International Office (WIO) in Lagos, says it was set to re-introduce electronic marking for its tests.

The Head of the Office, Mr Adelowo Maliki, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Monday in Lagos.

According to him, the marking before now was done with some foreign partners based in the United Kingdom.

“We started this electronic marking in 2014 through to 2015, only for us to suspend it in 2016, due to high costs as regards the high exchange rate.
“But now, we are set to bring it back as we have gotten all necessary approvals from the council’s committee meetings and the council itself.
“This led to our trying to develop our own in-house and by the grace of God, the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates would be marked electronically.

Joint Admsson and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Direct Entry for 2017/18 To Close September 15

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) says it will shut down its Direct Entry admission e-registration portal on Sept.15.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, the Head of Media and Information of the board, said this in Abuja on Friday.
Benjamin urged the prospective candidates for the direct entry admission to register before the deadline, saying that the board might not extend the deadline.
He also advised the UTME candidates to re-upload their O’ Level results in the JAMB new portal as the one previously used did not allow for the capturing of candidates O’ Level grades.

He further said that the candidates should use JAMB’s approved Computer Based Test (CBT) centers for the exercise.

According to him, the new portal has provided a platform for the detailed categories of West African Examination (WAEC) results of candidates for proper placement.

“The first platform that was used for the exercise did not create room for the capturing of the levels of grades such as C4, C5, C6, B1, B2, B3 and A1.
“You know in some schools, all these O’ level grades are considered.
“You may have a B1 and another candidate has a B3. If there is no room for separating the grades in the platform, schools may not be able to ascertain the levels of grades.
“The first platform just stated “A”, “B”, “C”. So with this new platform, there will be room for the download of the levels of grades.
“Somebody who has a B1 will stand a better chance than the person with a B3.
“So, we use this new platform to capture all those detailed categories of WAEC result so that no grade of result will be left uploaded.’’

Benjamin, however, added that any candidate who felt that what he or she uploaded earlier was enough might not bother.

ASUU Strike: Lecturers reach agreement with Nigerian Federal government

Students of Nigeria Universities affected by the ongoing strike organised by ASUU might be returning back to their institutions sooner than expected as the striking university lecturers, ASUU, have agreed to consider the federal government’s offer and suspend their strike.

The agreement comes after 12 hours, 30 minutes of a closed door meeting between ASUU and a government delegation in Abuja.

The leadership of ASUU, however, said though it accepted the proposal presented by the government, it will take the proposal to its members and get back to the government in a week.

Biodun Ogunyemi, the national president of ASUU, told journalists after the meeting that the union will come back after one week to take its final decisions.

“Now we have some concrete proposal that we will take back to our members for consideration,” he said.

On his part, the Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said ASUU’s demands have been addressed and the union will get back to the government in a week after consulting with its principals.

The meeting started 1:38pm on Thursday and ended 2:15 a.m. on Friday.

A SUG Candidate been disqualified from the Fuoye Student Union Election, The Vice President Aspirant in person of Bisiriyu Ayorinde Seun (Ayodinho) name and other was not found on the qualified candidate list.
After the news about Fuoye taking part in ASUU strike, Ayodinho himself publish and shared insight on his restoration back to be eligible to contest for the Vice President of the Fuoye Student Union Government.

Quoting Ayodinho…

I Bisiriyu Ayorinde Seun (Ayodinho) really appreciate every active FUOYEites for the *love and support* shown to me yesterday, i can’t thank you enough…
It is a pity that the DSA believed all the ‘lies’ told to him about me without confirmation(we’re all human afterall) Even after I passed all the tests. The rumour was that I failed the drug test,  lol they wished, I neither Smoke nor take any kind of illegal drugs, how I wan take fail “dope test” OR I’ve issues with the security, which the CSO has cleared…
Note: I’m not a cultist and I’ve never had issues with the School Securities, Nigeria Police Force, SARS or any security agency
Their only reason is because someone told them that “I’ll be a potential threat to the management”. And that I also have too many supporters which can be destructive to the school
Those excuses are not valid enough.
Now, my name has been returned to the list and they are still looking for opponents for me. What is my offence?  oppositions are highly welcome

What are your honest thought on this issue? Comment Below

ERC CONDEMS THE TOTAL INSECURITY OF LIVES AND PROPERTIES OF THE STUDENTS OF ADEYEMI COLLEGE OF EDUCATION, ONDO.
  • The management and Nigerian police should provide adequate security for the students now
  • Students should start mobilizing for a campaign against insecurity now

  • A political alternative is highly essential
The attention of the Education Rights Campaign (ERC), Ondo State Chapter, has been drawn towards the series of mishap happening within the premises of Adeyemi College of Education campus and its environs. According to the circular released from the office of the Dean, Divisions of Students’ Affairs, on the 6th of September, 2017, 3 female students of the college got missing within the span of 35 days (July 28 – Sept 1). Also, reports from the students have indicated that series of theft and armed robbery have become rampant on the campus since the inception into the 2016/2017 session in October 2016.
We hereby call on the school management to embark on an effective security measures in order to curb these issues before it gets out of hand.

According to the Dean, Mr. O.O. Olaluwoye, one Miss Oladepo Blessing Oluwaferanmi, of the department of BIO/CHEM (NCE combination), was declared missing on the 28 of July, 2017. On the 4th of August, another student, Miss Oloruntimilehin Semilore Mary, of the department of Agricultural Science, was also declared missing. As if this is not enough, another case of a missing female student. Miss Olaniyan Mary Oluwaseun, a Degree 1 student of the department of History, was reported missing on the 1st day of September, 2017.

Before the most recent case, the students thought the issue of insecurity was over when the Men of the police reportedly arrested 2 suspects who allegedly used one of the missing girls for ritual. As reported by the Sahara Reporters on the 27th of August, 2017, the decomposed body of one of the missing Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo girls was found in the ritualists den with one or more of her body parts missing. Up till now, the body (dead or alive) of the second student has not been found. The latest development was the disappearance of another student of the foremost teachers’ training college in Nigeria.

As frequently reported by the friends of the victims, these ladies were kidnapped on their way to their Boyfriends’ houses. As if this is the solution, female students are now being severally warned to restrict their visit and movement to their Boyfriends’ houses. We argue that this is not the solution to the problem. The management and Men of the police should find a long-lasting solution to the lingering insecurity issue. We have seen cases in the same college whereby armed men break into houses, steal valuable properties, injure male students, and rape ladies. Perhaps, students should restrain from sleeping in their rented apartments off-campus at nights?

Even the school premises are not secure. There have been several cases of theft and robbery reported in the school premises. Some hostels, like the Café female hostel, have witnessed several cases of theft in the recent days. Even a HOD’s office was been burgled while the students had to pay for the loss. All these are indication of a complete insecurity of lives and properties in the Federal-owned College.

This issue of insecurity started months ago and the members of ERC have raised the awareness on the need for adequate security measures. For us in ERC, we believe the college management should be able to provide adequate security for their students within and outside the college. Students live outside the campus due to the inadequate hostel facilities within the college premises. Hence, students living off-campus are eligible to all security measures enforced within the school premises. More so, we call on the Nigerian Police to deploy adequate security Men to the vicinity of the college in order to curb the high rate of kidnapping, theft, and armed robbery.

The students of the college should commence an immediate plan of action to demand adequate securities for their lives and properties. One of the reasons for the existence of a Students’ Union is to discuss the issues that concern the students with a view to finding solutions to them. Sadly, a union without a well-attended congress of students is very far from finding solutions to issues like insecurity. Hence, we call on students to start raising the demand for a mass campaign against insecurity. Truly, those who are affected will know the essence of adequate security.

What goes around will definitely come around. Staff unions should not wait until they start to become victim of insecurity. In as much as a HOD’s office can be burgled, the remaining members of the staff of the college are not safe. We therefore call on the NASU, SSANU, and COEASU of the college to mobilize themselves in order to find a lasting solution to the case of insecurity in the college. Some members of the staff have children who are also students of the college. Hence, a prompt intervention of the staff unions is highly essential.

Nevertheless, we have seen cases where the Men of the Police are completely clueless and rendered inactive. More so, this issue of insecurity is not only the topic of the day in institutions like ACE ONDO. It can be recalled that students of Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) went on a protest on August 16, 2016, to demand adequate security of their lives and properties. Hence, students’ and staff need to take the struggle for adequate security beyond the four walls of the school. Insecurity is one of the numerous shortcomings of the inequitable capitalist system and the Buhari/APC-led government as evident in daily reports; take Evans as an example.

This is why we members of the Education Rights Campaign (ERC) are calling for a genuine mass workers political alternative that will wrest political power from the few millionaire looters and establish a workers and poor people’s government anchored on socialist policies. It is until the commanding heights of the Nigerian economy is are placed under the democratic control and management of the working people that the social conditions of inequality and mass poverty that creates the problem of insecurity can be totally eradicated.

KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE FUOYE SCREENING REGISTRATION AND THE MAIN SCREENING EXERCISE

I think it wise to bring to your understanding the processes of the coming FUOYE screening exercise. I have been receiving several calls from people who have been mis-informed about the application news released by the school for its screening exercise commencing from 11th September through 29th.

There are three phases to FUOYE Admission processes and these are clearly explained
below;

✅ *APPLICATION/REGISTRATION FOR SCREENING*: This is the first phase of FUOYE admission processes which was advertised on the school website (www.fuoye.edu.ng) on Thursday 31st August. The registration is scheduled to hold for 2 weeks (11th - 29th September). Interested aspirants are expected to apply for the main screening with valid e-mail & phone number while uploading requested credentials which include *FUOYE portal-sized passport* and O-level results for UTME aspirants & Diploma (ND, HND, etc)/NCE result for Direct Entry aspirants. DE aspirants are also expected to process their transcript to the school before the end of the registration on 29th.

✅ *SCREENING TEST*: This phase is the main determining phase of FUOYE admission. After the registration would have been ended on 29th, the school will collate the list of applicants during the application period and then prepare the time-table for the applicants to be present for physical screening. This usually takes a week or two, depending on the total number of applicants. The school usually prefer written exam before last year when post-utme exam was banned and the school opted for physical interview. The school *may likely return* to post-UTME written exam this year if the current ASUU strike lingers. But this would be determined by the school management and included in the instructions which would be provided when applicants are invited for the screening test. So please forget any hear say for now and just prepare for both options.

✅ The last phase of the school admission process is when you are being welcomed to the school and requested to proceed with your Acceptance Fee payment and complete your Student Online/Physical Registration. After the list of successful applicants would have been taken to JAMB and approved. You'll be asked to log in to the school portal and check your admission status. For second list or some suplimentary list, you *may* receive a personal notification message from the school.

💧Most people are also being confused by some current first year students of the school, especially those admitted into the new courses in Faculties of Education, Management Science and some new department/courses in Agriculture, Social Sciences & Arts. The screening test stage was omitted for the new course students in the last admission because the courses were just approved and the school was therefore compelled to regularized them with the successful applicants who have earlier been screened through the normal admission process. This was why they applied to FUOYE at a charged cost of 5,000. So please help correct this notion across your groups.

💧With these, I believe most people's anxiety has been tendered. Please just debunk rumors that are misleading as some are already been asked to pay huge some of money (up to 10,000) for online examination into the school.

Among other questions being asked is how much will the application cost? As you know, last year JAMB direct schools not to collect any fee above 2,500 and the school complied. So for this year, the school is also expected to comply with JAMB's directives if #2,000. Any other charges by the school would be made open and communicated to the general public on the school website. So please disregard any other commitment by any person or blogging site.

Wish u best of luck in your journey to FUOYE.
