OOU Admission Screening Details for 2017/2018

Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State will conduct a Post-UTME (PUTME) Screening for candidates who wish to be admitted into the University for  2017/2018 Academic year.  The screening shall be conducted from Wednesday 26th July to Wednesday 9th August, 2017. 

Application Duration

The duration for application for UTME Candidates is three (3) weeks (open Tuesday 4th July 2017 and closes on Tuesday 25th July, 2017).  Registration for Direct Entry Candidates starts from 24th July, 2017.

Eligibility Criteria for OOU Admission Screening

The following shall be eligible for the screening:

UTME Candidates

• UTME candidates that picked the University with a minimum score of 180 in the 2017/2018 UTME Results.
• Candidates who did not pick the University but with a minimum score of 180 in the 2017/2018 UTME results.

Direct Entry Candidates

• Candidates with ‘A’ Level/ OND/HND/NCE/A’LEVEL/JUPEB Results/Certificate or First Degree who had applied for Direct Entry Admission through JAMB into the University.
• Candidates who possess Diploma certificate of the University and who had applied for Direct Entry admission through JAMB into the University.
• Candidates with Diploma from other approved institutions with minimum of Upper Credit who had applied through JAMB for Direct Entry admission into the University.

ASUU Strike: Why we met in Osinbajo’s office – Ngige

 As there appears to be  confusion over the Federal Government team negotiating with the striking  Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, the Minister of Labour and  Employment, Senator Chris Ngige, has dispelled the rumour of uncertainty  surrounding early resolution of the face-off between the university  teachers and Federal Government.  Recall that Senator Ngige had while briefing State House correspondents  after the Wednesday weekly Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting said  that the Vice President had taken aspect of the negotiation and  discussion with the striking university teachers.

According to Ngige, “At Council today (Wednesday), the Vice President  has taken over some aspects of the negotiation and discussion. So we are  continuing the meeting in his office and when we finish the meeting, we  will get back to ASUU with another round of meeting.  “We are hopeful that with another round of meeting, we will be able to  go an appreciable extent to solve some of the outstanding issues that  have prevailed them from going to work.”  But after over 48 hours it was reported that Prof. Osinbajo had taken  over as the leader of the Federal Government team in the negotiation  with ASUU, the presidency on Friday denied the report.  The Vice President in a statement in Abuja clarified that the Labour  Minister, Chris Ngige and his counterpart from Education, Adamu Adamu  will continue to lead the FG- ASUU talks.  The statement signed by Senior Special Assistant on media and publicity,  Laolu Akande said the earlier reports that Prof Osinbajo had taken over  the negotiations from the Minister of Labour and Employment on the  issue was inaccurate.  Akande in the statement said, “Media reports seemed to have  misrepresented what Labor & Employment Minister, Dr. Chris Ngige  meant when he spoke with reporters about the negotiations after the  Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday.  “The Vice President had a discussion after FEC with both the Labour  Minister and Education Minister Malam Adamu Adamu around the issues, but  has not taken over the negotiations as widely reported. Both Ministers  will continue to lead the FG- ASUU talks.  “The Federal Government continues to diligently pursue a prompt  resolution of this dispute and is confident the matter would be  resolved.”  However, the Minister of Labour and Employment, Ngige on Saturday  dispelled speculations of uncertainty over talks between the Federal  Government and ASUU.  A statement by the Deputy Director Press, Ministry of Labour and  Employment, Samuel Olowookere said the Minister of Labour and Employment  as the chief conciliator of industrial disputes in the country and the  Minister of Minister of Education whose Ministry is the employer of the  university teachers are still leading the talks.  The statement further said the consultation at the office of the Vice  President by both Ministers after last Wednesday’s Federal Executive  Council meeting was in consolidation of the negotiations so far held  with ASUU.  It explained that, “The Vice President has not taken over the matter.  The meeting in his office was in consolidation of negotiations.  Engagement of the striking ASUU members is still being handled by  Ministers of Labour and Employment and the Minister of Education.  “Issues of strike by an employee is a labour matter . The Minister of  Labour and Employment is therefore synergising with his Education  counterpart where the strike occured to resolve the dispute. 

“Just as the Minister of Labour and Employment led negotiation with the  National Association of Resident Doctors in conjunction with the  Minister of Health, the same applies in the case of ASUU.  “As a matter of fact, the Minister of Education reported progress on the  issue to the Federal Excutive Council and together with the Labour  Minister held a meeting with the Vice President subsequently.  “This is normal procedure in government where Ministers report to the  President or Vice President to streamline efforts and gains in a given  assignment. But that does not entail such assignment is no more being  handled by the Minister charged with the responsibility.  The statement added that the Minister of Labour specifically told  reporters that government negotiating team on ASUU strike was to meet  with the Vice President.  “It was reporters that interpreted it to mean the Vice President has  taken over negotiation, it concluded.”

Locky Ransomware: Cert-In Issues Alert, Advises Users Not to Click on Suspicious Emails

The government on late Saturday issued an alert on the spread of Locky, a type of ransomware through which attackers encrypt (lock) files on impacted computers and then demand payment from the victims in exchange of unlocking those files. Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), an arm of Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, advised residents of India as well as Indian companies and corporate houses, to look out for suspicious emails with file attachments, the common way attackers are using to spread Locky. CERT said that a massive email campaign — in which more than 23 million have been sent — is underway to trick people into installing Locky ransomware via emails.

CERT advised people to not click on emails with subjects like "please print", "documents", "photo", "Images", "scans" and "pictures." It noted however that attackers may, and likely will, change their strategy and include other kind of messages in the subject line of their emails. In general, just avoid clicking on any suspicious email. "The messages contain ‘zip' attachments with Visual Basic Scripts (VBS) embedded in a secondary zip file. The VBS file contains a downloader which polls to domain 'greatesthits[dot]mygoldmusic[dot]com' (please do not visit this malicious website) to download variants of Locky ransomware,' CERT wrote in the notification.

Locky is one of the most popular ransomware, and among the first to have made global impact. First incidents of attacks with Locky were reported early last year, but then other kind of ransomware such as Petya and WannaCry became more prevalent. Last month security firms Symantec, MalwareBytes, and Comodo and others reported about resurgence of Locky ransomware in cyber attacks.

Last month, MalwareBytes reported about two new variants of Locky ransomware including the ones that used file extention ".diablo6” and ".Lukitus”.

CERT has advised ised to steer away from clicking on any such suspicious files, adding that they should consider taking regular backup of their important files. In an event of Locky ransomware attack, the victims lose access to all files. Furthermore, you should consider not keeping external hard drives -- in which you may have copied your important files -- attached to your computers at all times, as access to the will also get blocked in case you become a victim of Locky.

In a conversation with Gadgets 360 last month, Microsoft executives said that users should consider moving their important files to cloud (via online storage services such as Microsoft's OneDrive, Google's Drive, Dropbox) as files stored on their servers may remain accessible in case of ransomware attacks.

The 3,300 mAh battery can last a day and it would have been great if Samsung could have bettered it. While the overall performance is great, this device is definitely not for heavy mobile gamers as slight hiccups and lags could disappoint.

If you are looking for a device to watch movies with good camera capabilities, then the Samsung Galaxy On Max is definitely a good choice. Having said that, there are smartphones like the Moto G5s Plus, Nokia 6, Lenovo K8 Note and others competing on the camera front. All in all, the Samsung Galaxy On Max is a good phone for average users who want a good camera, big display and the reliability of Samsung brand.

Facebook Messenger appears to be down for users in the UK and across mainland Europe.

The hugely-successful chat app is purportedly experiencing an outage, with hundreds of users unable to send or receive messages, photos, or video.

Facebook Messenger started to suffer problems at around 9am GMT.

The UK and Europe appear to be the worst hit by the outage, however, reports of problems with Facebook Messenger have streamed-in from locations across the globe.

Independent website DownDetector, which tracks social comments around a certain topic to monitor outages across the globe, has mapped the problems.

According to DownDetector data, hundreds of Facebook Messenger users are complaining about interruptions to the service every minute.

Some 53 per cent of those encountering issues are unable to receive text messages.

According to DownDetector, 46 per cent cannot login to the chat app.

The news follows as Facebook updated its popular chat app to support live location sharing.

Live Location allows Messenger users will be able to broadcast their location using the app for up to an hour - making meeting up easier than ever.

The service is not always tracking, as users will be able to choose exactly when they share their location, and who sees it.

Messenger users can launch the new service by tapping on the new ‘location’ icon displayed above their chat message.

This will then open up a map showing your current location, along with the option to share this with the person you are chatting with.

Once activated, your friend will be able to see your movements for an hour, with changes reflected in real time.

The service will also show how long it would take to get to the other person’s location by car, but you can also choose to tap anywhere on the map to arrange to meet there instead.

You can stop sharing your location at any time during this period by tapping on the ’Stop Sharing’ button that appears in the map windows.
